Wallitner Weekly 34

Hello everyone!

A lot of productive things happened these last two weeks

These are turning into the Wallitner Bi-Weekly, Ive just been so busy and Fridays are my travel days. I need to be a little more proactive and maybe write these on Thursday. That way they’re done and I send them out on time.

I worked on the “Waitress” Tour. I was sent up to the loading bridge to put weights on the fly rail. Basically, I put a bunch of 40 and 50 pound bricks onto a pulley system so that the set pieces and curtains could be lifted up. It was super cool to see the set come together from so high up. The loading bridge is about 60 feet above the stage.

I also went suit shopping last weekend for my wedding outfit. The grooms-party all got together and we picked out/ordered our suits. Then we went whiskey tasting afterwards. It was loads of fun.

I have also gotten into editing/transposing some more outdated music. I think that going forward Id like to have a section of my website dedicated to scores that I have edited/transposed for people. Apparently there is a huge need for some of these older symphonies to be updated. Some of the parts have errors in them and some of them are written for instruments that have since been innovated.

I’ve got lots of plans for next week too!

I hope to start co-writing some music. I have a few friends who I am interested in writing with. I spend a lot of time writing text for people and then they write the music. I think it would be a lot of fun to have a hand in the music too. I’d like to do it in a way that everyones voice is heard too. I have some sketches of pieces that have potential, but I haven’t finished. I plan to send them to a friend and see what he can add to the foundation Ive sketched out.

I also plan to do some grant writing this week. First I have to find one I think I’ll be a good fit for, but I hope that happens today. I also want to start entering “call for scores” type contests. Call for scores are when a group says “write for us” and you send them a piece. If they like your work the best, they give you money and then they perform it. If they like someone else’s work more, then at least you wrote a cool piece of music haha.

My plan being, write for the call and if I don’t win, publish the piece. I mapped out my five year plan for my publishing company recently, and one of the first steps is to start publishing my music.

Anything worth doing is worth doing late.

I started writing this Wallitner Weekly at 3:57 pm. It was meant to be sent out at 4 pm. I am late. Usually when this happens I think “Oh well I missed it, guess Ill try again next week”. Hence the recent Wallitner Bi-weeklys. But I realized that anything worth doing is worth doing late, so here I am. Who knows how long it will take me to write this or when it will be sent out, but it will be sent out.

I really started thinking about this idea of doing things even if you’re late when I started talking about poetry with my grandmother. She has mentioned a few times that she’s only just started learning about poets like Pablo Neruda or even singer/songwriters like Bob Dylan. But all I can think of is, at least you’re learning about it now.

I also was thinking of my aunt who is often there when grandma and I talk poetry and how she is so interested in what we say. My aunt has mentioned a few times to me how refreshing it is to watch two people, especially from vastly different generations, talk about art. And how she wished she understood a little more herself. Now all I think is “Its not too late to try”.

But for whatever reason when it comes to a project or something that I am doing, I haven’t been able to start if I know Im late. It would be like starting a New Years resolution in febuary. You can’t do that, its not New Years anymore. And yet, if its something worth doing, Its worth doing late.

I am planning to be on time, but life finds a way to change our plans. So if the Wallitner Weekly is meant to show up at 4pm on a Friday and it doesn’t make it out until 5 pm or maybe even 6pm. Or heck, it could even go out on Saturday! Know that I thought it was worth writing. And maybe it might even be worth reading.
